Have you mastered the Strings and want to take your Orchestral Writing to the next level? Introducing the long awaited Part 2 of the Orchestration Series: Compose orchestral music for woodwinds. This is the next natural step to learning the difficult art of orchestration. The strings were tough due to the number of articulations. The woodwinds are tough to learn due to how many there are and how different each one sounds from the next . Not only that, but there is incredible variety when it comes to their registers too. Did you know you could score an entire piece using a bunch of clarinets, each playing in a separate range? The reason is because there are very distinct registers for the clarinet, that you could view each one as an entirely new instrument altogether. It's facts like these that make the woodwinds difficult to learn. There's just so much variety , so much uniqueness , that it makes orchestration even more of a headache to learn. There's the TOO MUCH INFORMATION problem. That's where this course comes in. It's designed to be simple, giving you just the right amount of information. We don't just gloss over things like an overview - that would be betraying the art for what it is. But, we go into clear detail, with in depth examples and explanations, like a laser focusing in on all the important bits. You'll walk away knowing a ton about the woodwinds, much more than just the basic information. You'll have new techniques and new ways of exploring with the woodwind instruments. And you would have witnessed a lot of real life examples from our analyses and audio demonstrations of each instrument. By the end, you'll not only have gathered the knowledge about the instruments, but the MINDSET. You'll know how to pick apart an orchestral score for yourself and analyze what's going on. You'll know how the melodies and different lines are shifting from each woodwind instrument into various registers and why the composer chose to do that. And you'll essentially become a woodwind-sound potions master. Mixing and blending different sounds will be a new skill you pick up. The string family sounds similar all throughout the whole family . The woodwind family is entirely different all throughout the various families and sub families. This will level up your orchestration skills way above the first part of the Orchestration series, and you'll view orchestration in an entirely different light after this. The possibilities for creation and orchestral sound blending are endless. If you're not using the woodwinds, you're greatly missing out. Add some spice and flavor to your strings, or even to the rest of your modern orchestral score if that's what rocks your boat. Or else, welcome to Level 2 of Orchestration. Let's kick it with almost a hundred new sounds from the Woodwind Family!

This is a class designed for the average person who is ready to take their music career (or music interest) and develop it into something more. Whether you are an active musician or an aspiring musician, this class is perfect for you. When most people think of a composer, they imagine someone sitting in a dusty attic with a grand piano, a big white wig, and the year is 1800. That might have been accurate back then, but the modern composer is just like you and me. In fact, I am one. In this course, I'll show you the techniques I use for writing music in a variety of styles and situations. I've worked with major American orchestras, film studios, and video game designers, so I've got more than a little experience. This course gives you an outline of some of the things you should be watching out for as a composer. Over the years, I've noticed that a lot of my students overlook many things that should be integral to the creation process. Some of these are simple ideas, yet easily overlooked. I want to help you to gain more insight in what to look for to help you avoid these same traps. Composition can seem like something huge to take on, but is only as difficult as you make it. I want to help change that frame of mind by offering a series of insights that will help composition, and music in general, to become something much more interesting, much simpler, and hopefully much more natural in terms of your approach to composition. I have had a long career as a music teacher, composer and musician and would like to share my ideas with you. We will look at topics such as: How to 'think' like a composer Orchestration Vertical versus Linear Thinking Voice Leading Active listening Articulation Foreground and Background material Dynamics Composition maps Composing with random notes Examples from the repertoire With these and other topics, I want to help you focus on the more important aspects of composition. Some of the ideas may seem abstract, but this is just to get you 'thinking outside the box'. This course will not teach you how to compose. That's not the purpose. Anyone with a basic idea of music theory could, theoretically, compose. The object here is to give you some insight into best practice and to try to establish your own compositional voice.  Combining critical listening with score study can also help you achieve this, once you know what to listen for, and what to watch for in the score. There are some quite technical details in the course, but I deliberately try to avoid these where possible. There are many courses that can teach this and many, many books on the subject. This course is more about using the tools of music in combination with putting yourself into a composing frame of mind, using your own experiences to draw from. It's also about how your mindset can help you to achieve your goals. I hope you will join me here and get some new perspectives on composition. It's a wonderful art - but it's easier than you may think if you just start with the right information... Lawrence O'Donnell December 2020

Music is a universal language. Everyone has a favorite melody. Music allows people from all backgrounds to come together and share a common love. Although there are many different types of music, they all start with the same fundamentals. Having knowledge of music basics can be a beneficial skill in many aspects of life. Knowing these functions not only allows an individual to comprehend the language, it also allows them to tap into their own creativity and contribute towards the historical heritage of sound. This book series is intended to provide a concise, simple and effective way of explaining the fundamentals.

Music Composition 1 is the first course in a series of two courses that teaches how music is put together and how to write your own music. The course is divided into two parts. Part one covers the study of rhythmic composition. Part two covers the study of melodic composition. (Harmony and form are studied in Music Composition 2) Course lectures consist mainly of video but also include some text. Each section of the course covers a particular concept (or related concepts). Concepts and compositional techniques are demonstrated throughout the course with real musical examples (pictures and audio samples). Besides lectures, each section of the course also contains memory questions, section quiz, listening assignments, and transcription/composition assignments. Memory questions serve to summarize and reinforce key concepts learned, while the quizzes test the students’ knowledge and understanding of the material from each section. Students who take this course will get practice transcribing music (hearing a rhythm or a melody and writing it down). In the composition assignments students will get real life practice using the information and techniques learned in each section to write their own rhythms and melodies. Who should take this course? Every student of music should know how to compose! It is a sad but true fact that most modern music teachers and music courses do not include music composition as part of the students’ musical education. In the past it was typical for students of music to be able to compose music. The “complete” musician can play an instrument, has knowledge of music theory AND can also compose! If you want to deepen your understanding of music, learn to write it! Course Includes : 190 Diagrams and Audio Samples (to illustrate concepts taught) 125 Memory Questions (to reinforce concepts taught) 90 Transcription and Composition Assignments (to practice the concepts taught) 76 Listening Assignments 21 Quizzes

There’s one fundamental thing in music that you can learn which will immediately improve your music compositions. Without buying the latest sample libraries, without spending months or even years analysing the minute details of music orchestration, and the best news is that you probably already know a little about it. And that’s melody . In this melodic music composition course, you’ll learn: A tried and tested method for composing better melodies from scratch How to compose a strong melody over an existing chord sequence What makes a good melody How to compose countermelodies The scales and modes you can use to compose more interesting melodies I’ve taught literally hundreds of students how to compose music in person, and thousands more online, and I’ve also won awards internationally for my own music, but when I first start teaching a new group of students about composing melody , they often think it doesn’t apply to them. Maybe you’re into death metal and don’t view that as melodic? Or perhaps you’re writing minimalist music built on patterns or chord sequences? Well…here’s the thing: you’re still writing melodic music. As Leonard Bernstein said: “where there’s music there’s melody, you can’t have one without the other” I remember one student in particular, Jamie, who was really into rap so didn’t think melody had much to do at all with what he was composing. During our first lesson we sat together and analysed some of his favourite tracks and he went wide eyed, amazed at just how many melodic elements there were in music that he himself had thought wasn’t melodic. He went on to write some of the most intricate, and interesting hip hop music I’ve heard for a long time. So melodic music writing isn’t about composing “old-fashioned” symphonies or cheesy pop songs. It’s about writing better parts for any type of music. Whether you’re a music producer with little formal musical training, or a classically trained musician frustrated about why your music isn’t connecting, my course on melodic music is going to help you learn to bring your compositions to life. When you enrol: You'll get lifetime access to the music composition program, where I walk you through all of the steps I use to create better melodies. You’ll learn what to listen for while analysing your favourite music, all of the building blocks that are used to put a melody together, I'll teach you a number of methods of creating and developing a melody, working with harmony, and creating counterpoint. Remember that you’re protected by a 30-Day-Money-Back-Guarantee , no hard feelings, just in case you discover that the course isn’t right for you. So if you’re ready to take your music composing to a new level, and to put in the work to get you there, click the “Buy Now” button now to enrol today. See you in the course! P.S. it isn't your mixing holding you back, you don't need a new sample library, and you don't need to be a musical prodigy to write great melodies. You just need to know what makes a good melody and apply that to your own compositions. Enrol today and I'll show you exactly how.
